On the 2nd of December 2025, a statement by Denise Wilson (Chair of Trustees), Felicity Oswald (CEO), and Tracy Foster (Chief Guide) informed the Girlguides family that they would no longer accept trans children in the guides in its entirety.

This was apparently brought in to comply with the Supreme Court judgement in the case of “For Women Scotland” v “Scottish Ministers”. A case about such a narrow point of law that even the judgment said “We have concluded that a biological sex interpretation would not have the effect of disadvantaging or removing important protection under the EA 2010 from trans people”. Yet the Girlguides have, disturbingly, decided that trans children from the age of 4 and up are now to be excluded from being with their friends.

As JK Rowling stated in an online post, “It reminds girls that the desires of boys do not supersede their feelings, their rights, their discomfort or their safety”. These are children, and yet it appears the Girlguides agree with Rowling.
