Tell Your Members of Congress to Stop the Privatization of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)

IMPORTANT ALERT TO ALL EMPLOYEES OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT:

Please support the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) by opposing any efforts to privatize or disrupt public control of its operations. Dismantling a public power system that provides affordable, reliable electricity to millions of people across the region is not the answer.

For almost a century, the TVA has delivered affordable energy and economic development to 10 million residents across seven states. The TVA has been a model for how public power can provide for communities while creating good union jobs that support thousands of working families.

Privatizing the TVA will undo everything the TVA stands for:

  • Force residents to pay more for electricity
  • Trigger the loss of skilled jobs for thousands of citizens in the Tennessee Valley, many of whom are veterans or from rural communities
  • Promote profits over the public interest by installing private companies with limited accountability and no roots in the community

As the nation faces unprecedented demand for energy, the TVA manages legacy dams, hydroelectric generation stations, nuclear plants, and fossil fuel generating facilities, all while leading the clean energy future with innovative technology like small modular reactors. Dismantling the TVA now will betray the people the TVA was founded to serve by eliminating countless good jobs and raising every resident’s electricity bill.

President Trump has already weakened the TVA by removing three of board members, and is now pressuring the remaining members to fire TVA’s CEO or face removal themselves. Now is the time to unequivocally reject all attempts to privatize the TVA, and demand a fully transparent and thorough confirmation process for future board member nominees.

This fight is not just about the legacy of the TVA. It is about protecting workers, defending communities, and preserving public infrastructure for the public good.

We must act now. Write to your members of Congress today. Tell them to protect good-paying jobs and the future of energy in the South by opposing any attempts to dismantle or disrupt public control of TVA operations.
