The University of California Must Divest from the Thirty Meter Telescope
We need your help protecting the sacred!
Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world from the ocean floor, and is located on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. It is also the most sacred place in the Kapu religion, the religion of Native Hawaiians. For Native Hawaiians, Mauna Kea is the piko: the umbilical cord and the center where Wākea (Sky Father) and Papahānaumoku (Earth Mother) meet.
The University of California (UC) has invested tens of millions of dollars in a project, the Thirty Meter Telescope, that will desecrate Mauna Kea. Despite over a decade of resistance to the project from Native Hawaiians and allies across the world, the UC is still planning to build it in Hawai'i.
To let the UC know they need to divest from this project, take ten seconds to 1) insert your contact information, 2) click "start writing," and 3) click "send letter" to send the prewritten letter!
