UCI Health: No layoffs for essential workers!

Teamsters Local 2010 - Our work makes California work

In March, UC Irvine Health laid off 1% of its entire workforce and reduced hours for hundreds more workers. UCI Health claims that these were “noncritical employees” but, we, the workers disagree. Patients need to know if their care will be compromised!

Dozens of Teamsters Local 2010 members have been affected by these layoffs and reductions, including surgery administrators, perioperative care providers, and maintenance workers at three UCI hospitals—who are on call for urgent repairs to UCI’s patient rooms, ORs, and critical infrastructure. Does that work sound nonessential to you?

UCI Health CEO Chad Lefteris makes $1.2 million a year. UCI Health spent $975 million on four hospital acquisitions in 2024. But when it comes to retaining the workers on whom patients rely every day, UCI Health says they don’t have the money. What’s the truth?

Help us fight back against UCI Health’s mismanagement and greed! Send a letter to UCI Health leadership calling for the reinstatement of laid off and reduced workers at our hospitals!
