Unfreeze our housing pipeline: Don't let rents spiral out of reach

See Seattle's building dashboard here

Right now, a well-intentioned city policy called Mandatory Housing Affordability (MHA) is backfiring. By placing massive, outdated fees on new construction, it has made it too expensive to build in Seattle.

When home building completely freezes, everyone loses:

  • Renters lose because fewer new homes mean less competition for landlords and higher rents for the 85% of us who live in market-rate housing.

  • Affordable housing loses because a fee on a building that never gets built raises zero dollars. This housing accelerator is estimated to add $10M+ in additional affordable housing dollars due to increased building.

We are sending this letter to urge Mayor Wilson to pass the Housing Accelerator a common-sense, temporary two-year adjustment to these fees. It is a quick bridge to unfreeze the pipeline, get thousands of homes building again.

City Hall is wavering and considering more endless meetings instead of action. We need you to send this letter right now to tell the Mayor to choose progress over process.
