Do not vote for a budget that includes a cut to the Shaw & add a 4th grade

In contradiction with what they promised, BPS is closing a classroom at the P.A. Shaw. This is another step in dismantling our treasured school community. Students and families are asking BPS to make the Shaw a K-6 full inclusion school, and add a 4th grade for the coming school year.

The P.A. Shaw has a higher percentage of Black students and a higher percentage of students of color than any of the schools already chosen for K-6 expansion. After two years of disrupted education, students and families want stability and nurturing, not added trauma.

Write the BPS School Committee to demand they not approve a budget that includes a cut to the Shaw. Ask them to advocate to support, not tear down, the Shaw, and make a long term plan for Dorchester/Mattapan that includes the preservation of this beloved school.
