Urge Mayor Todd Gloria and the City Council to Keep Funding Safe Streets
We need your help. Mayor Gloria's draft FY27 budget proposes to completely eliminate the multimodal team (aka the road safety team) within the City's Transportation Department. These engineers are responsible for planning and designing projects across the City that make our streets safer, and are implemented as part of the repaving and restriping of roadways, when enhancements are cheapest. Think crosswalks, bike lanes, traffic signal timing, and other improvements. Most of the lane miles of bike lanes in the City have been created by this team. This is despite the increase in funds allocated towards transportation, due to growing state and federal funding that must be spent on transportation. This proposal does not compete with funding for libraries, rec centers, or arts and culture. The Mayor's proposal seeks to maintain the deadly status quo that has claimed the lives of San Diegans of all ages, at the cost of a more sustainable, livable, and vibrant city. Let us be clear, it doesn't have to be this way. Tell the Mayor and City Council to reverse course. Fund the multimodal (road safety) team. Keep San Diego moving forward on safety.
