Urge LA Metro to Approve the C/K Line Extension to Torrance (Jan 2026)
Dear Friends,
This is our chance to win better transit to the South Bay: The LA Metro Board will take a final vote in January 2026 to certify and approve the C/K Line Extension to Torrance project and its Final EIR.
This light rail project was promised to South Bay voters in Measure M a decade ago, with years of environmental review and decision steps. With Metro building rail throughout LA County, the moment to secure a train to Torrance has finally arrived, and we have to get it over the finish line.
With your help, we've won critical victories: Metro selected the Hybrid LPA with the Draft EIR in 2024 with critical rail upgrades and neighborhood bike-walk paths. In September, Metro released the Final EIR. In December, we secured continued support from the COG instead of a pause.
Last Friday, Supervisor Mitchell brought a motion against staff recommendation, which is highly unprecedented, which could stall the project for 5-10 years. She is catering to demands of a minority of people in her district and introducing greater complexity, timeline, and uncertainty with the Hawthorne Option.
Metro Board needs to hear from the South Bay and LA County that we need this project as soon as possible, and the most efficient way is on the rail corridor. Send an email before January 21 at 5 pm.
Better yet, show up to the Metro Board Meeting on Thurs, Jan 22 at 10 am to speak in favor of Item 11 (Staff Recommendation for Hybrid LPA) and against Item 11.1 (Hawthorne Alternative).
