Urge NYS Legislative Leaders to Include HIV Housing for All in the FY27 Budget
New Yorkers with HIV outside of New York City are homeless or unstably housed right now. Help exists, but their counties can't afford the local share to provide it. NYC has used the HIV Emergency Shelter Allowance to keep people with HIV safely housed for decades. Their neighbors upstate and on Long Island have been left out.
There's a simple fix on the table in this year's state budget. Give counties outside NYC the option to provide the same HIV housing assistance, with the state covering 100% of the cost. No mandate. No new appropriation. And because stable housing keeps people in care and out of the ER, it pays for itself in Medicaid savings.
Governor Hochul, Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Speaker Heastie can include this fix in the FY27 Enacted Budget, but only if they hear from us. Send the email below right now.
