#FightForAsylumRights - Resume Syrian asylum claims now!

Fight the Anti-Refugee Laws

It's been more than six months since the suspension of Syrian asylum claims - and the fight is still on to get this decision overturned.

After Syrian people in the UK had their lives thrown into limbo by an indefinite pause in asylum and leave to remain claims, we launched a huge public letter calling on the Government to reverse its decision.

It was signed by over 730 organisations and individuals on the frontline of providing support to people seeking asylum in our communities across the UK, urging the Home Office to reconsider the decision to suspend all Syrian asylum claims following the fall of the Assad regime.

But we can't let the Government forget about the lives it has left frozen. We must kee up the pressure on the Home Secretary from within parliament, so with a few clicks, use this easy tool to write to your MP with two simple asks:

  1. Commit to urging the Home Secretary to resume the processing of asylum claims

  2. Commit to meeting with you as their constituent

  3. Commit to joining the Fight for Asylum Rights by signing the pledge at www.fighttheantirefugeelaws.org.

If your MP agrees to meet with you let us know by emailing info@asylummatters.org and we can equip you with a briefing and some top tips on ‘elevator pitching’ to your MP to get the most out of the meeting.

Keep the pressure up on social media too by sharing the letter on your socials with the hashtag #FightForAsylumRights - you could even tag Yvette Cooper.

And finally, if you haven’t already signed the Fight the Anti-Refugee Laws pledge, you can do so here.
