Urge Your Member of Congress to Stand for 'No War No Warming'!

Communities across the U.S. and around the world are being devastated by military occupation, war, and state-sanctioned police violence. With increasing fossil-fueled military escalation across borders all over the world, including the violent Ukraine-Russia war, oil and gas corporations are capitalizing on war and crisis, arguing for increased oil and gas production to increase their profits while people suffer. Additionally, the U.S. military is the single largest consumer of fossil fuels in the world and has enforced the occupation of Indigenous sovereign lands while upholding violent resource extraction and leaving a trail of toxic contamination around the world.

An institution that willingly engages in human and ecological destruction to achieve its mission will never be ready to confront climate change. Addressing climate change requires ending the military-industrial complex. A Just Transition to a Regenerative Economy must end wars, military culture, and the violence of militarized forces and police on Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Arab and Pacific Islander communities, and against women and gender non-conforming peoples. We must transition from economies of war and violence that perpetuate systems of oppression towards regenerative economies of life.

Anti-militarist, feminist and abolitionist movements in the U.S. ask our U.S. legislators to take action to divest from climate-destructive and war industry-driven policies and invest in a regenerative, reparative and life-affirming feminist agenda for peace and climate action.

We call on elected leaders to stand for a healthy future and economy of life, and support No War No Warming through the following:

“As a sitting member of elected office, I have and will continue to use my office to advance to the fullest extent possible within my duties as an elected representative an end to U.S. military expansion and policies that contribute to war-profiteering, pollution, and climate chaos, and to support real climate solutions by advancing policies that:

  1. Clean Up, Remediate, and Transition Military Bases and Militarized Communities. As the U.S. military remains the single largest consumer of fossil fuels on the planet, ending the fossil fuel economy and building a regenerative economy will require shutting down fossil-fueled military bases and operations, withdrawing military installations outside the U.S. and on occupied territories, and ensuring toxic remediation and a Just Transition of base sites to alternative healthy and resilient community uses. It will also require stopping the development and testing of new nuclear weapons that have historically been tested on Indigenous land and communities of color in the U.S. and abroad.

  2. Reallocate Funding from Institutions That Propagate Harm, and Invest in Community Resources. Reducing climate pollution from militarized forces requires a full accounting of military greenhouse gas emissions and reduction targets, such as outlined in the Resolution for Department of Defense emissions reporting and reduction. Ending military pollution also means we must take action to reallocate funding from climate-destructive and war industry-driven policies and invest in alternative community solutions.

  3. End Weapons Manufacturing and Distribution, and War Profiteering. Create policy bans on weapons manufacturing, end the production of nuclear weapons, and repurpose military equipment and weapons manufacturing facilities for regenerative livelihoods. Negotiate treaties to ban the trade, trafficking, and distribution of weapons of war.”

In the event that an elected official no longer meets this criteria, their team will be notified and given two weeks to come into compliance before their public recognition as a No War No Warming supporter is removed.
