Urge your state legislators to vote nuclear weapons bills favorably out of committee by May 8th!
The federal government is simply not doing enough to protect the citizens of this country from the existential threats of climate change and nuclear war. These threats are with us now and increasing every day. We need a Citizens Commission to look into the most effective ways that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts can protect its citizens from these threats and can use its influence to get more action from the federal government. And in the meantime, we need Massachusetts to take a clear stand on the need to move us back from the brink of nuclear war.
The Nuclear Weapons and Climate Commission bill (S.1488) and the Back from the Brink resolution (S.1487) are still sitting in the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. The committee has until May 8th to move these bills forward for a vote by the full Senate. (The House version of the Commission bill was voted favorably out of another committee on March 14th).
Please support these two nuclear weapons bills in the State House by writing to your state legislators today! The deadline for moving this to the next stage in the legislative process is May 8th for S.1488 and S.1487.
