Urgent Action Needed to Address Helicopter Safety in Our Communities

On April 10, 2025, a sightseeing helicopter crashed into the Hudson River near Jersey City, killing six people — including three young children.

This wasn’t just a tragic accident. It was the result of years of ignored warnings, failed oversight, and an industry that acts in a careless and reckless manner that prioritizes profit over public safety.

Every day, hundreds of nonessential helicopters fly low over and alongside New Jersey and New York homes, schools, parks, and waterfronts — with no meaningful regulation. Residents are forced to live under this constant risk without consent.

Join Stop the Chop NY/NJ and Safe Skies Coalition - Hudson County to show our collective force and demand action for safer skies over our communities

Send your letter now to state and federal lawmakers and other key decision-makers. Urge them to:

  • 🚁❌ Ban nonessential helicopter operations in the NY metro area–especially over and alongside residential areas (FAA)
  • 🛡️🗒️ Enforce stronger oversight and safety regulations on the non-essential helicopter industry (USDOT, NJDOT, FAA)
  • 🏛️✅ Advance NJ state bills such as A1371 and S275 (NJ State)

This is your moment to demand safer skies for everyone in our community.
