Urgent Concerns Regarding Barnard Dorm Security and Recent Safety Incident
On December 5th, 2025, an unauthorized individual entered a Barnard dormitory at 616 W 116th Street. He entered without any response from the dorm security and stayed in the lounge still without any response. Soon after, he entered multiple suites within the building and chased a student within her suite. According to student reports, he was there for at least 2 hours before being removed. Furthermore, there was zero notification to students by Barnard security about this incident. Given the recent rise in campus security due to past protest activity, it is unacceptable that someone was able to enter the dorms, stay there for multiple hours, and chase a student without being apprehended by dorm security. Even though the administration says these heightened security measures are to protect Barnard students and staff, it is obvious that when a true safety risk is presented, this security did nothing to protect the students.
