A major development threatens portions of the rare and ecologically vital Sibley Prairie complex. Right as conservation efforts are underway to protect this natural treasure, a massive new housing project—44 homes and 58 condominiums—is proposed just south of Sibley Road, west of the Fritz property targeted for protection.
This site includes over 40 acres of wetlands. The project was wrongly permitted years ago, but construction stalled after the 2008 housing crash. The permit has since expired, and the developer is now seeking a new wetland permit from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE).
EGLE appears poised to approve the permit—but public opposition can still make a difference.
Take action now:
Send a quick email to EGLE urging them to deny this permit and protect the biological integrity of Sibley Prairie.
