Urgent: Support SJR 13 and Librarians Across Illinois

Logo for Coalition for Higher Education Libraries

Please support Senate Joint Resolution 13 (SJR 13), a crucial measure that examines the current state of libraries and professional librarianship on Illinois public higher education campuses. This resolution has already passed with unanimous support in the Senate and is now likely to be called this week by the Illinois House of Representatives.

Faculty librarians are under threat from budget cuts and attacks on intellectual freedom. Western Illinois University is already laying off all of its faculty librarians in May, and other academic libraries are limiting or exploring cuts to these positions as well. These cuts threaten to undermine the important work librarians do, including supporting student success and retention, protecting academic freedom, and assisting research and development.

We need your help to ensure SJR 13 moves forward! Please take a moment to:

  • Contact your state representative and urge them to support SJR 13.
  • Share this action with your networks to amplify our voices.
  • Stay engaged by following the latest updates on this resolution

Thank you for standing up for libraries and supporting SJR13!
