URGENT: Tell Congress Vote YES on H.R. 535, PFAS Action Act

Hello Friends,

The federal defense spending bill passed in December and it had some decent PFAS legislation in it directed at our military families. However, some key items were left out that we desperately need to prevent future exposures to these toxic chemicals.

The House of Representatives will likely vote at the end of this week on the PFAS Action Act (H.R. 535). This bill is the most comprehensive PFAS legislation to ever be considered by Congress.

In particular, the bill will:

  • Designate PFOA and PFOS as “hazardous substances,” which will kick-start the clean-up process at the most contaminated sites and hold PFAS polluters accountable.
  • Require EPA to quickly determine whether other PFAS chemicals should also be designated as “hazardous substances.”
  • Restrict PFAS releases into the air and water
  • Require EPA to set a PFAS drinking water standard within two years, and provide new funding for PFAS water treatment infrastructure.
  • Expand EPA’s Safer Choice program to help consumers avoid household products made with PFAS.
  • Place a moratorium on new PFAS chemicals, and require more PFAS health studies.

Please send a letter to your Congressional representative asking them to vote YES on H.R. 535--the PFAS Action Act.

Your voice matters. Thank you!

With gratitude,

Clean Cape Fear
