The House votes Wednesday, September 2, on H.J.Res.1, a constitutional amendment that would freeze the Supreme Court at nine justices forever and strip Congress of a power it has used seven times since 1789, including under Lincoln, to check a runaway judiciary. This Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in Louisiana v. Callais, granted presidents sweeping immunity in Trump v. United States, and overturned Dobbs.
