Vote No on H.R. 845 "Wolf Eradication" Bill

Dear Representative/Senator [Last Name],

I am a constituent from [City, State], and I am writing to urge you to vote NO on H.R. 845, the Pet and Livestock Protection Act, aka the Wolf Eradication Bill.

This bill is being rushed to the House floor despite serious flaws and dangerous consequences. It is not a targeted solution to real problems—it is a sweeping, fear-based measure that would permanently remove gray wolves from Endangered Species Act protections and bar all judicial review, eliminating scientific and legal accountability.

Claims that this bill is necessary to protect pets are simply false. Pets killed by wolves—excluding hunting dogs—account for far less than 0.01% of all pets annually. There is no public safety crisis that justifies nationwide wolf delisting.

Livestock losses, while real for some producers, are localized, and the states with the highest wolf–livestock conflict—Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming—are already federally delisted and fully empowered to manage wolves. H.R. 845 does nothing to improve compensation, prevention, or coexistence. Instead, it imposes a blunt national solution where one is neither needed nor supported by evidence.

We have already seen what “state management” means in practice. Since federal protections were removed in parts of the northern Rockies, thousands of wolves have been lost to unlimited trapping and snaring, year-round killing, aerial gunning, and bounties even for killing young pups and nursing mothers. These policies are not balanced wildlife management—they are designed to drive wolf populations toward complete eradication.

The coalition pushing this bill makes that intent clear. National organizations such as the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Safari Club International, Hunter Nation, the National Rifle Association, and allied state farm and hunting groups have openly supported H.R. 845, often praising its elimination of judicial review. Power-drunk groups that profit from demonizing wolves and controlling our wildlife. That provision alone should alarm anyone who values science-based policy and the rule of law.

The Endangered Species Act exists to prevent politically driven wildlife persecution. H.R. 845 undermines that purpose and sets a dangerous precedent: if Congress can legislatively delist wolves and silence the courts, any protected species can be next.

I urge you to oppose H.R. 845, defend the Endangered Species Act, and support science-based, targeted approaches that protect both rural communities and wildlife—without resorting to fearmongering or eradication.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
