Vote YES on HB26-1123, Prevent Sexual Abuse in Jails
HB26-1123, Preventing Sexual Abuse in Jails, has passed the Colorado House and is now in the Senate. Please join the Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CCASA) in contacting your state senator TODAY to urge them to vote YES on this bill when it gets to the Senate floor!
Recent news coverage reflects what the research shows: sexual violence is rampant in jails, including Colorado’s.
Driven by survivors and advocates, here's what HB26-1123 will do if passed into law:
- Prevent sexual abuse by limiting and regulating strip searches and video recordings
- Support survivors by expanding access to confidential services and reporting protections
- Increase accountability by protecting whistleblowers and stopping perpetrators from job-hopping
We are proud to champion this bill alongside survivors and advocates across Colorado, as well as its sponsors -- Senator Judy Amabile, Senator Mike Weissman, Representative Katie Stewart, and Representative Javier Mabrey.
Thank you for taking action with us to support survivors!
In solidarity,
The CCASA Team
