Washington State Senate: Make Data Centers Pay Their Fair Share
The Washington State House just passed the strongest data center regulation in the country. Now the bill is in the State Senate, but the biggest tech companies in the world are lobbying hard to stop them—including a Washington-based data center company that's also renting office space to ICE1.
Use this form to urge your State Senator to pass House Bill 2515 (HB2515), AND ask them to make it even stronger.
Senators are debating a bill that would put new rules in place that hold data centers accountable to us, including:
- Requiring new data centers to cover the costs of any grid improvements needed so that the rest of us don't foot the bills
- Requiring financial guarantees so local communities aren't stuck holding the bag if a data center shuts down
- Closing a loophole data centers exploit to get pollution permits for free, and instead requires them to pay for dirty energy use like any other business in Washington
There are also important steps we're urging the legislature to take to strengthen this bill. We want them to strengthen the environmental protections, to ensure full transparency and community decision-making, and to set binding rules on water use.
Tech billionaires are flooding Olympia with lobbyists to stop HB2515—send a letter now demanding your Senator stands up for Washington residents!
