Walla Walla County residents should be able to protect our local resources for current and future generations.

Amazon is slated to build a massive data center in Walla Walla county that will tap into our own aquifer system and pump massive amounts of water out of the communities’ water supply just to cool their power-hungry computers. They’ve pinky promised behind closed doors to only build to the capacity of our power grid. But their promises are empty ones. Oregon residents have been fighting pollutants that have seeped into their aquifers from Amazon data centers and they are rapidly relying on generators and power plants as they expand. Last year, national wholesale rates for electricity shot up 75% on data center demand alone, which has meant higher prices all across the board.

Our groundwater supply is already low and overdrawn, and our deep water aquifer supply is shrinking. We do not have a power grid capable of maintaining large scale data centers. Residents should not have to foot the bill so Big Tech can get richer and make life more expensive for all of us.

The Walla Walla Anti Data Center League is asking you to email the three county commissioners demanding that they institute a year long data center moratorium to give us all a chance to set the rules that data centers must abide by. The more people that they hear from, the harder it is for elected officials to turn a blind eye and let the clock run out before the entire region is covered in data centers.
