Sabra’s parent company, Israel-based Strauss Group, has openly and proudly admitted to funding the Israeli army for more than thirty years. The group explicitly stated that they “have adopted the Golani reconnaissance platoon for over 30 years and provide them with an ongoing variety of food products for their training or missions, and provide personal care packages for each soldier that completes the path.” The aforementioned Golani Brigade, notorious for numerous allegations of human rights abuses (by Palestinians, Israelis, and even members of the brigade alike), actively participated in the 1948 Occupation of Palestine and the ethnic cleansing of over 700k indigenous inhabitants, the 1982 Occupation of Lebanon, the 2008-2009 Gaza Massacre, in which 1,391 Palestinians were killed, and the 2014 Siege on Gaza, in which 2,204 Palestinians; 65% of which were non-combatant civilians, and including nearly 900 infants, children, women, and elders.

With that in mind, providing Sabra on our campus directly supports Israel’s apartheid system of military occupation, settler colonization, and disregard for the humanity of the Palestinian people. Sabra is not an acceptable brand to promote on campus, and I, along with many other students, feel strongly that Sabra should no longer be sold on our campus. We implore you to divest from all Sabra products and appreciate your consideration.

The time has come to end Boston University’s affiliation with the unethical brand Sabra.
