We Demand More Help with Utilities, Not Less
President's Budget Eliminates Energy Assistance--We Demand More Help, Not Less!
Hoosiers' energy bills are climbing, yet the President's proposed 2027 budget suggests eliminating the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, one of the major sources of support for Hoosiers who are struggling with energy costs. This program is already chronically underfunded, with just over 100,000 Hoosier households helped each year by this program, even more than 650,000 households are eligible and in need.
The president's proposed budget is just that- a proposal. Our elected officials in Congress are the ones who ultimately decide how much to fund different programs, and when the president's budget tried to zero-out LIHEAP in 2025, YOUR outreach to Congress ensured that that lawmakers knew the importance of the program and the funding was protected! To ensure that LIHEAP continues to be funded and that lawmakers understand more help is needed with utilities, not less, we need YOU to speak up to share with your lawmakers on why they support utility support measures like LIHEAP.
