We need a Plan

Washington Teachers Union
WTU

Mayor Bowser and DC Public Schools have had over 2 days to communicate and execute a comprehensive plan to ensure a quick and safe reopening of our schools after inclement weather. As of now we have yet to hear one.

WTU Members have created an outline of what a plan should include and are ready to partner with DCPS to implement it: Linked here.

Join us in requesting an inclement weather plan that:

  • Is clearly, transparently and readily communicated to reopen our schools. Including material regular updates reported before 5PM each day.
  • Involves information gathering at the local school level to make informed decisions regarding staffing, student attendance, and the school community's needs so that they can be provided for.
  • Ensures that all students and staff are safely able to get to and from school and provides grace for those who cannot.
  • That the schools are warm and have been fully inspected for burst pipes and access to safe drinking water prior to reopening.
  • Long term planning around the school calendar to make up for lost days and plan for potential future inclement weather events.
