Now the real work begins

Taylor McFarland - NJ Sierra Club

It has been quite a start to 2021. I’m sure many of you, like me, were horrified by the traumatic images of a mob of mostly white, mostly male rioters assaulting the Capitol. But they are not the future. We are. We see hope in the culmination of a decade of grassroots organizing in Georgia with the elections of Senators Warnock and Ossoff. We see hope in the assembling of a new Senate majority. We see hope in the grassroots energy across the nation that has pushed back the hate and fear of the Trump era and ushered in a new era of possibility. But we can’t let up now. Now the real work begins.

We are entering an election year in New Jersey which is a critical opportunity to advance a progressive agenda that rebuilds from the pandemic, fights the climate crisis, and transitions our state to a green economy that centers public health and economic equality. The time is now to contact our elected officials, starting with Governor Murphy, to tell them that we need to ACT while we have the momentum. Send an email to Governor Murphy TODAY, and tell him that he needs to enact a moratorium on fossil fuel projects, a rapid and fair transition to a 100% renewable economy, and an open and transparent government in New Jersey.

This has been a tough start to 2021, but remember, we are the future. The organizing we all do in 2021 could shape the direction of our state, our country, and the world. This election year kicks off tomorrow with Governor Murphy’s State of the State Address. It’s time to enact a bold climate agenda. Thank you for your tireless activism.
