Why is the Fort Worth Report hiring a union-busting firm?

Fort Worth and Tarrant County deserve strong, independent local journalism.

The journalists and staff who produce the Fort Worth Report have formed a union with 85% majority support. We are asking leadership to voluntarily recognize our union so we can negotiate in good faith over fair pay, sustainable workloads and long-term newsroom stability.

Instead of recognizing the clear majority decision of staff, the company has hired a third-party labor relations firm, Labor Relations Institute — a national organization that specializes in advising employers on how to oppose unionization and keep the workplace "union free"

We want to be clear:

We are organizing to strengthen the Fort Worth Report, not harm it.

We believe strong journalism depends on stable working conditions, transparency and accountability — values we bring to our reporting every day.

Hiring a union-avoidance firm does not reflect those values.

We are asking members of the community, readers and supporters of local journalism to stand with the staff and urge leadership to:

• Respect the majority choice of employees
• End the use of outside union-avoidance consultants
• Voluntarily recognize the Fort Worth Reporters Guild

Local journalism works best when the people who produce it have a real voice.
