Send a message to Mayor Johnson:

Dear Mayor Johnson:

As winter's chill grips our city, our most vulnerable individuals and families face a harrowing reality.

  • Imagine being evicted into the cold with your children, just 60 days after finding shelter after spending days, possibly weeks at a police station?
  • This is not just a policy issue -- it's a humanitarian crisis happening right here, right now.
  • This policy is inhumane and is setting families and individuals up for failure,  putting them at risk of physical harm.

Why we need to act now.

  • Winter Evictions = Heightened Health Risks: Enforcing this policy in winter increases serious health risks and hardships for families, especially those with young children. COVID, RSV, Flu, Chicken Pox. You name it. Haven't these families been through enough ?
  • Trauma: These evictions add to the immense stress of people already scarred by long, perilous journeys.
  • Waste: Evictions mean losing vital possessions, squandering community efforts and donations.
  • Detrimental Impact on Children: The eviction policy will destabilize children’s education, and create havoc for the schools serving them. If new shelters are far enough away, families will need to move schools or suffer long commutes.
  • Bad data: This policy leads to the double counting of individuals affecting the accuracy of data and the redistribution of resources. When individuals return to the landing zone, they are assigned a new SR number. This hinders the city's capacity to efficiently allocate resources.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Your leadership in this situation is crucial, and I urge you to rescind this harmful policy.

Sincerely,

A Concerned Citizen
