Write to your State Senator: Support AB 1577 for Data Center Transparency!

AI data centers are being built at a dizzying pace, but we don’t know how much energy they are using.

Current projections are that they will be a major user of the grid, with a predicted use of between 6.7% and 12% of the country's electricity by 2028. State and local energy planners need data usage figures to accurately assess project siting and infrastructure investments and ensure that data centers pay their fair share of costs.

Tech companies and data centers aren’t volunteering such information. AB 1577 would fill this knowledge gap by requiring data centers to report energy usage to the California Energy Commission and for the CEC to make it publicly available.

AB 1577 is opposed by the Chamber of Commerce and Data Center Coalition, among other industries, so we need to show that grassroots support is behind transparency and fairness! Please write a letter to urge your state Senator to support this common-sense bill.
