Write to Your MP - Defend Teacher's Pensions!

Where possible, please use your school address
United Learning, the largest Multi-Academy Trust in the country, have accelerated their plans to offer an inferior pension scheme to teaching staff.
As well as being a poor alternative to TPS for individual teachers, we are also concerned that the pension proposal could pressure other education employers to introduce similar schemes, offering an artificially inflated starting salary at the expense of a pension and in doing so, jeopardise the TPS more widely.
The defined contribution scheme would offer a higher starting wage, but not come close to the TPS in terms of pension size, security or benefits. We all agree that wages in education are too low, but asking teachers to sacrifice a secure retirement to meet the soaring cost of living now is not the answer.
The NEU and other Unions have already written to the Secretary of State for Education to express our serious concerns at the proposal. We are asking members in United Learning to write to their MP to share their concerns and ask that their MP takes these to the Secretary of State.
On the next page, you will find a pre-written letter template. However, after adding your MP's name at the top and yours at the bottom, you can edit it as you see fit to personalise your message.
This quick action could have a really big impact, so please send a letter and encourage colleagues to do the same!
