Administrator Zeldin & the EPA: Stop Rolling Back Clean Air & Climate Protections from Power Plants

Power Plant Pollution, Environmental Justice, and You

Burning fossil fuels like coal and gas at power plants creates harmful air pollutants like nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter (or soot), mercury, among others. Fossil fired power plants are also the second largest source of climate pollution in the U.S. fueling the climate crisis. According to the EPA’s own analysis, many power plants are located near communities with higher percentages of people of color and low-income. For decades, our communities have been disproportionately exposed to toxic air pollution, causing elevated rates of adverse health impacts, including from respiratory and heart illness, cancer, and premature death.

We Need to Hold the Line to Defend Clean Air

These efforts – which are part of the Agency’s planned rollbacks of over 30 vital health and environmental protections – will add to the harm vulnerable communities of color and lower income people already face. Under President Trump’s EPA, we face some of the worst environmental and health rollbacks of the last 50 years, including threats to clean air protections that put our families, friends, and loved ones at risk. We are holding the line to keep our communities – and all neighborhoods across the country – healthy and safe.

Since 2022, the Clean Air for the Long Haul, a national coalition of environmental justice organizations, have mobilized by sharing letters, testimonies, and public comments urging the EPA to adopt better clean air standards. Through our advocacy, we achieved some of the strongest, most health-protective clean air standards in history. Now, the protections we fought hard for are under attack.

We need your help to hold Trump’s EPA accountable to its mission to protect our health and future. Sign our letter and share your comments to push back.
