Demand the DOJ Investigate and Charge all the Officers who Murdered Breonna Taylor

Attorney General Merrick Garland

To the Honorable Attorney General,

On March 13, 2020, officers from Louisville Metro Police Department murdered Breonna Taylor in her home during a botched no-knock raid, with a warrant that was authorized based on lies.

Nearly two years have passed — and not one single person has been held accountable.

A trial just began in Louisville against one of those officers. But Officer Brett Hankison does not stand accused of Breonna’s death. He stands accused of shooting bullets into a wall in a nearby apartment building.

It is incomprehensible that a Black woman can be killed in her apartment and the state declares nobody responsible. We, the undersigned, join Until Freedom, The Breonna Taylor Foundation, Black Women’s Roundtable, Girls for Gender Equity, Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, Grassroots Law Project, 1Hood, Faith for Black Lives, The Gathering for Justice, Black Voters Matter Fund, Hip Hop Caucus, Woke Vote, and LiveFreeUSA to demand you use your authority as Attorney General to charge and investigate all officers involved in the murder of Breonna Taylor.

The state has failed Breonna’s family and her community.

Black women deserve justice. They deserve our attention and although two years have passed, we won’t stop fighting for Breonna Taylor. You have a responsibility to use your office to seek justice in this case. We hope you will act upon it.
