Elevator Justice for the 7 Train – Queens Deserves Access Now

Mr. Janno Lieber, MTA Chair and CEO

Bringing Elevators to the 7 Train in Queens

Every day, the 7 train carries essential workers, families, seniors, and students through Jackson Heights, Corona, Elmhurst and East Elmhurst. But despite extensive, ongoing renovations at four stations in our community: 82nd Street–Jackson Heights, 90th Street–Elmhurst Avenue, 103rd Street–Corona Plaza, and 111th Street there are still no immediate plans to install elevators.

That means thousands of our neighbors, people with disabilities, seniors, parents with strollers, and workers with injuries, are being shut out of the transit system they rely on.

This is not just an inconvenience. This is a civil rights issue. This is a racial and economic justice issue.

Our neighborhoods are working-class, immigrant communities of color that depend on public transit more than almost anywhere else in the city. Yet we’ve been left behind when it comes to accessibility.

We believe in a New York where everyone can move freely, safely, and with dignity.

We demand that the MTA:

  • Immediately commit to installing elevators at 82nd Street, 90th Street, 103rd Street, and 111th Street stations
  • Include these stations in the next MTA Capital Plan with a clear and enforceable timeline
  • Prioritize equity in transit investments, focusing on communities with the highest need
  • Engage the community with transparent updates and local input throughout the process

Our communities cannot wait another decade. Accessibility delayed is justice denied.

Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas has seen firsthand how decisions get made and she is fighting to ensure Queens gets the investment we deserve. Now it’s time for the MTA to act.
