Say no to 24 Wokingham digital screens
Wokingham Borough Council
Wokingham Council have recently awarded the contract for bus shelter management in the Borough to Trueform, a public transportation technology and manufacturing company.
Trueform have applied to install double-sided digital advertising screens at 12 of the borough bus shelters. Most of these currently have paper advertising screens. One stop in the town centre, which currently doesn’t have any advertising on it at all, has also been proposed for change to a digital screen shelter.
Adblock Reading are supporting residents in Wokingham to oppose these screens. Wokingham Borough currently does not have any digital advertising screens. This is the first attempt to roll them out here. They are detrimental to the amenity of the area in that they detract from the character of their locations. They are not a useful feature. They are distracting and agitating as they are illuminated day and night and the image changes every 10 seconds. This is also a distraction for drivers. The screens use the equivalent energy of 3 average houses. There are better uses for this precious energy.
Please add your name to the petition which will be sent to Councillor Carol Jewell, Chair of the Wokingham Borough Council Planning Committee.

Dear Councillor Carol Jewell, Chair of the Wokingham Borough Council Planning Committee, and other Committee members,
We oppose the planned installation of 12 double-sided digital advertising screens across Wokingham Borough. Currently there are either paper bus shelter posters at these sites, or no advertising at all.
We object to these digital screens on the grounds of
▪️ Diminishment of the amenity and negative change to the visual environment
▪️ Intrusive visual pollution from illuminated screens that change image every 10 seconds
▪️ Reduction of road safety due to distraction of road users. These screens would not be installed if they were not distracting
▪️ Do we need MORE outdoor advertising?
Yours sincerely,
Adblock Reading (and Wokingham)
