To: Fellow Local 375 Members and Delegates
From: [Your Name]

We are proud members who care deeply about this union and our fellow workers. Democracy, transparency, and forums for discussion are necessary for a strong union and empowered members. We feel that recent Local 375 general and delegate meetings have failed to encourage member participation and lacked the opportunity for member-to-member connection. These meetings are some of the only places for members to interact directly with the local and its leadership. With this in mind, we will be presenting the following motions at the December delegates meeting in an effort to make our local meetings more engaging, open, and democratic:

1) We call for a vote at the December 2024 delegates meeting to formalize the move to a hybrid setup for General and Delegates meetings starting in January 2025.
This would codify remarks made by the president and second vice president at the November Delegates meeting indicating openness to hybrid meetings and an intent to secure space at the new DC 37 headquarters. Should this vote pass we call for the local to immediately begin taking steps to host hybrid meetings including securing a space with a hybrid setup, committing the budget necessary to make it happen, and replacing RingCentral with a more functional virtual platform such as Zoom.

2) We call for a vote to add a minimum of 30 minutes at each general meeting during which members can raise questions and concerns related to general workplace or local matters. We believe that general membership meetings present an important opportunity for members to learn more about the union and how to be involved, exchange ideas, and actively participate in shaping our Local. We believe open, regular, and frequent membership meetings are vital to a strong and democratic union.

We call on members and delegates who support these actions to sign on to this letter and to support these motions at the next delegates meeting.

Solidarity,

Fellow Members of Local 375
