PrideTO - Drop TD as a Sponsor and Tell Them: #WeAreNotYourAlibi
PrideTO: Board, Staff & General Members
To the Executive Directors and Board of Pride Toronto,
We the undersigned write to demand that Pride Toronto finally take concrete action toward ending its complicity with Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians, by dropping TD Bank as a sponsor of the Pride Toronto festival.
As queer and trans people, we refuse to allow for a bank that profits from ethnic cleansing to use our identities to launder its reputation. By accepting TD’s sponsorship, Pride Toronto is enabling this tactic of pinkwashing. To this we say, loud and clear: We are not your alibi!
For three years, Pride Toronto has refused community demands to act in solidarity with Palestinians. Most recently, at Pride Toronto’s 2026 AGM, the Board urged members to vote against the creation of an ethical sponsorship policy in line with BDS (the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement). One Director even stated that their opposition arose from the desire to prioritize local struggles, including Indigenous struggles against settler-colonialism in “Canada.” If it had passed, the ethical sponsorship policy would have required Pride Toronto to cut ties with TD. Since 2019, TD has faced widespread protests for its involvement in the Coastal GasLink Pipeline — a project that violates the sovereignty of the Wet’suwet’en nation, and for which the state has repeatedly deployed militarized violence against Wet’suwet’en land defenders.
We see Pride Toronto’s tactics for what they are: attempts to divide resistance to entities that profit from disposession and extraction on stolen lands, from Turtle Island to Palestine. And we say: Our liberations are intertwined!
TD has $42.9 billion of holdings in companies complicit in “Israel”’s crimes:
Palantir: a data analytics company that facilitates surveillance, predictive policing, ICE raids and deportations. Palantir’s CEO has admitted that their products are used in killing Palestinians, and claims its software was used in “Israel”’s 2024 “pager attacks” in Lebanon.
Elbit Systems: “Israel”’s largest weapons company.
Cellebrite: a digital intelligence company that makes phone-cracking tools, used by “Israel” to harvest data from the devices of thousands of Palestinians kidnapped from Gaza. Also used by the RCMP and Canada’s border agency.
TD profits from these deadly technologies, tested on Palestinians, and later used in so-called Canada to target those already vulnerable to state violence and repression, including Indigenous peoples, migrants, trans people, and protestors. By sponsoring Pride festivals across “Canada,” TD gets to brand itself as “inclusive” and “progressive,” concealing the fortune it gains from occupation and genocide.
Instead of allowing TD to hide behind our flag, Pride Toronto must add to the mounting pressure on TD to change course. We say: There is no Pride in Genocide!
Drop TD now.
