Transform Oxford's Economic Strategy
Councillor Susan Brown, Leader, Oxford City Council
Oxford City Council is consulting on Oxford’s Economic Strategy (“OES”) and Delivery Plan - a plan that will fundamentally affect the future shape and wellbeing of our city.
We think that this plan is not fit for Oxford now or in the future as it sets global ambition and growth above the needs of ALL Oxford's residents and does not take the urgent action needed to address inequality and the climate and ecological emergencies.
Oxford City Council should withdraw its draft proposal and create a new economic strategy that is truly inclusive and fit for the future
- in collaboration with all Oxford’s residents and community groups and stakeholders
- using a suitable framework such as Doughnut Economics to allow a holistic approach that meets the needs of everyone within planetary boundaries

The residents and communities of Oxford would like to work with you and other stakeholders in the City and the County to produce a new Economic Strategy. One that meets the needs of all Oxford's residents within the boundaries of our planet.
The draft plan has been made without our input and without considering Oxford as a whole in the context of its current problems and the future threats from the Climate and Ecological Emergencies.
We know that other places already doing this: using approaches that allow for a circular economy, that balance complex decisions in a holistic way and do this collaboratively with their residents. Oxford as a City with global aspirations should show leadership and innovation to allow our City to be a thriving place for everyone.
