Louisiana workers need unions! Louisiana workers need the PRO Act!

Senator Cassidy, Senator Kennedy, and all Louisiana lawmakers!

Working-class Louisiana families deserve a better deal.

While the billionaire class has added over a trillion dollars to their wealth over the past year, wages remain stagnant for the rest of us. Losing a job can mean losing your healthcare, your house, your savings, and you and your family’s safety.

Louisiana history tells us that no matter who’s running the government, only an organized working class can win the transformative change that everyday people need. We deserve the right to organize with our co-workers for a living wage, decent benefits, and safe, dignified conditions on the job.

Union membership is proven to provide workers with better pay, better healthcare, better job security, paid time off, a seat at the table, and respect on the job. We need to balance the scales between the bosses and the workers so that all of us have the right to form a union.

To do that, we need our lawmakers to stop giving tax breaks and bailouts to corporations. Instead, our lawmakers need to stand up for workers’ rights! Our lawmakers need to support the PRO Act!

It's time for Louisiana lawmakers to show their support for working people and families in our state. Whether they represent us in Washington, in Baton Rouge, or in our own towns and cities, elected officials need to do everything in their power to stand up for the rights and protections that the PRO Act guarantees all working people! Other state representatives are voting YES on the PRO Act. Other cities have passed resolutions in support of the PRO Act. It’s time for Louisiana leaders to do the same!

Senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy are ON NOTICE until they commit to vote YES on the PRO Act! Our state lawmakers are ON NOTICE until they demand the PRO Act for Louisiana workers! Our city officials are ON NOTICE until they demand the PRO Act for Louisiana workers!

Over the past month, working people across the country have made almost A MILLION CALLS demanding the PRO Act. Because of our pressure, Senator Angus King (I-ME) and Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) have flipped from siding with Republicans and their donors to siding with working people and our families!

We’re not stopping there. The PRO Act is worth fighting for, and the working class is ready for a fight!

What the PRO Act means for you and your family

To give working-class people a better deal here in Louisiana, we need to pass the PRO Act. To build mass working-class power here in Louisiana, we need to pass the PRO Act. The PRO Act would strengthen the power of unions that workers have already won. For those of us who need a union, it would strengthen our rights to organize on the job for the fair pay, benefits, protections, and rights we deserve. The PRO Act is landmark legislation for reducing wealth inequality in the US. It is the first step to building an economy for all of us, not just the wealthy elite.

Louisiana has a history of a vibrant labor movement — so strong, in fact, that it was the last state in the South to adopt anti-union “Right to Work” laws in 1976. We demand that Senator Cassidy, Senator Kennedy, and state and local leaders across Louisiana honor this legacy and honor the workers who keep our society and economy afloat.

During the pandemic more than ever, we have seen how working-class people are the ones who hold our world together: providing our food, taking care of our health, delivering our goods, getting us from place to place, improving our infrastructure, teaching our kids, and so much more.

No matter what kind of work you do, you deserve a paycheck that doesn’t make you sweat. You deserve conditions on the job that are fair, safe, and dignified. To make this a reality in Louisiana, we need workers’ rights, unions, and a strong labor movement in our state!

If the PRO Act passes, Louisiana workers will be able to build power. We won’t have to deal with “Right to Work” laws that deny our families what we need to survive. We won’t have to deal with anti-worker barriers to building unions. We won’t have to deal with arbitrary wage gaps and different treatment based on what we look like or where we’re from. Tell our leaders: support the working class and pass the PRO Act NOW!

Passing the PRO Act would:

Make our economy fairer and stronger!

Level the playing field between workers and bosses!

Strengthen protections for workers forming a union!

Cut down on union-busting corporations!

End racist “Right to Work” laws!

Reduce the racial wealth gap!

Give independent contractors the right to organize!

Prevent bosses from replacing workers on strike!

End the boss’s advantage during collective bargaining!

And more!

Who the PRO Act benefits: ALL OF US!

Essential workers, waged workers, salaried workers, union workers, non-union workers, blue-collar workers, white-collar workers, service workers, office workers, agricultural workers, construction workers, transport workers, immigrant workers, freelance workers — all of us will get a better deal and fairer share if we pass the PRO Act. The PRO Act would strengthen unions, workers’ power to organize on the job, and our capacity to win a just economy for working-class people in our state and across the US!

Over the past month, working people across the country have made almost A MILLION CALLS demanding a level playing field between bosses and workers. We’ve flipped two senators from siding with the wealthy elite to siding with everyday people, and we’re not stopping there.
