Make the Campground Moratorium Work!

Burnett County Board of Supervisors

Burnett County is a beautiful place to live, work, raise a family, and retire. We love quiet, rural living. Apparently the Burnett County Board of Supervisors does, too.

The Supervisors have approved a four-month moratorium on "campgrounds" and "campground" expansions (TXT-21-01).

Now is our chance to pump the brakes on big changes happening in our area.

Land speculators are targeting Burnett County to build massive, high-density RV parks and "seasonal campgrounds". These projects:

  • Cram tens or hundreds of "seasonal" residences into a single residential lot.
  • Charge their customers only a couple pennies in property tax for every dollar you pay.
  • Strain our first responders (law enforcement, firefighters and EMTs) to the breaking point.
  • Put pristine fishing waters at risk and overcrowd our lakes, rivers and streams.

We, the undersigned, call on the full Burnett County Board of Supervisors to return local control to the taxpayers. It's time to stop converting farmland and residential lots into massive, high-density RV parks and seasonal "campgrounds". Make the moratorium work - preserve our rural way of life!

Let’s get to work! I call on the full Burnett County Board of Supervisors to use the time allowed under the Campground Moratorium (TXT-21-01) to modify the Burnett County Code of Ordinances to:

1. Allow new and expanded manufactured home parks and campgrounds as permitted uses in commercial zoning districts (C-1, no conditional use permit required); and

2. Eliminate manufactured home parks and campgrounds as conditional uses in agricultural (A-2) and residential (RR-1, RR-2, and RR-3) zoning districts.
