Dear DNC Leadership Candidates,
For the first time in years, a Republican Presidential Candidate won a majority of voters with household incomes under $100,000 and Democrats won higher-income voters. To defeat the dangerous politics of Trump and his allies, the Democratic Party must show voters that Democrats are the party of working people — not billionaires or corporations.
By banning SuperPAC spending in primaries and rejecting corporate donations to the DNC itself, Democrats can send that message loud and clear by curtailing the influence of big money in the party.
As a candidate for DNC leadership, we urge you to pledge to take on the corrosive influence of big money in the Democratic party so that the Party can effectively take on Donald Trump and rebuild trust with the young voters, working-class voters, and voters of color that should be the heart of the Party. The pledge reads as follows:
I pledge to build a party that delivers for everyday people and fights to end the corrosive influence of big money in our politics. I will work to ensure that billionaire donors cannot shape the Democratic party or Democratic primaries.
1. I will revive President Obama’s ban on contributions from corporate lobbyists and PACs to the DNC.
2. I will use every tool at my disposal to ban SuperPAC spending in Democratic Primaries, including: (a) forming and chairing a committee of DNC members to investigate how to end SuperPAC influence in Democratic Primaries; (b) I will urge and support State Democratic Parties to ban SuperPAC spending over $5,000 in Democratic Primaries (c) I will cut ties between the DNC and any donors or consultants that work with those SuperPACs.
