California State Assembly

AB 1358 (originally authored by Assemblymember Bonta, now authored by Assemblymember Muratsuchi) would require that key state agencies collect and release standardized and disaggregated data for communities of color. It would add additional ethnic groups, including Hispanic, Latino, Spanish, Caribbean, American Indian or Alaska Native groups, Middle Eastern or North African, Black and African American groups to the disaggregated data collection of AA/NHPI groups already required by AB 1726.  The bill would also require any state supported or assisted efforts that evaluates and addresses health disparities or inequities to use the expanded disaggregated data collected in order to more accurately capture the health inequities faced by limited English proficient, vulnerable communities of color.

As of 5/20/2021, the bill passed the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee unanimously with bi-partisan support, and passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee and is headed to the Full Assembly Floor.

We support the actions and values outlined in AB 1358 to ensure that Disaggregated Data is standardized and collected to ensure the health disparities of marginalized communities are documented during public health crises.
