Ticketmaster is a monopoly that unfairly benefits from being one of the only companies that sells online tickets for concerts and shows in the country.
We’ve seen deplorable behavior from the company: absurdly long wait times, and, even worse than that, exorbitant, unjustified fees that Ticketmaster would not be able to charge if there were other companies that could compete.
The Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission have the power to break up the Ticketmaster monopoly. In 2010, Ticketmaster merged with Live Nation. Ever since then, consumers, artists, and venues have suffered from the undue influence that Ticketmaster has on the industry. Skyrocketing ticket prices and fees and bad user experience have made it harder for working people to see their favorite artists.
In recent weeks, we’ve seen more than ever how Ticketmaster abuses its leverage as a monopoly, charging ridiculous fees and neglecting to provide an acceptable level of service for Taylor Swift concert ticket buyers. The site crashed multiple times, causing fans to lose their place in a queue of thousands. To add insult to injury, rising ticket prices fuel the scalping industry, because third-party corporations can afford them better than working people. Scalped Taylor Swift tickets are selling for as much as $22,000.
Ticketmaster, we demand that you stop making concerts unaffordable for working people. We’ve had enough. It’s time to investigate and break up Ticketmaster’s unfair monopoly. Sign MoveOn's petition.
