The violent assault that took place on January 6, 2021 was the predictable outcome of a much longer campaign by Trump and Republicans to incite an insurrection by falsely claiming fraud in the November election and trying to overturn its results. And Senator Josh Hawley was a key ringleader of this movement, joining others in the Senate like Ted Cruz in an effort to overturn the will of the voters.

Josh Hawley bears responsibility for the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021-and the violence, destruction, and deaths that resulted from it. He must either resign or be removed from the Senate.

This mob was clear about its motivation: They bought the lies and misinformation from people like Sen. Hawley that the presidential election was fraudulent, and they were planning to try to violently overturn its result. In the weeks and days leading up to the mob riot, Donald Trump had given explicit encouragement for this sort of insurrection, but it wasn’t Trump alone who was responsible. He had a group of Republican enablers in the Senate and House.

Ever since the results of the November election showed a clear and decisive victory for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, Josh Hawley has been a loud voice spreading false and dangerous conspiracy theories about fraud, and he was the first in the Senate to say that he would oppose the certification of Joe Biden's election victory.
