Dear Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary,
We, Israeli citizens living in the UK, many of whom also hold British citizenship, call on the British Government to act decisively towards halting Israeli aggression in Gaza and elsewhere, and securing a hostage deal. Adding to our last letter from May 8, 2025, we stress the importance of UK action on this matter.
Since the horrific Hamas-led attacks of October 7th, Israel has mounted a harrowing assault, killing over 57,000 Palestinians (expert estimates are significantly higher), displacing approximately 90% of the population, devastating Gaza’s infrastructure and causing near total civic breakdown. Intensifying its decades-long siege, it has repeatedly blocked humanitarian aid and food from entering the strip, causing widespread starvation. Israeli ministers and members of the Knesset make no effort to conceal the genocidal intent behind the military assaults they order (“wipe Gaza off the face of the earth” is just one statement made by Nissim Vaturi).
Simultaneously, Israel is intensifying its longstanding effort to ethnically cleanse the illegally occupied West Bank through relentless army and settler attacks.
We are encouraged to see that the UK has finally taken some initial steps to sanction Israel, including suspending negotiations over a new free trade deal, as well as initiating sanctions on individuals, illegal settler outposts, and organisations supporting violence against Palestinian communities in the West Bank. These are positive developments, but we urge the UK to implement more far-reaching sanctions in line with its legal duty to prevent genocide under the 1948 Genocide Convention.
Horrified, we watch Israel commit heinous crimes and we ask you, our representatives in the UK, to act. Britain’s historic and ongoing responsibilities demand that it lead efforts to apply much-needed diplomatic pressure for change. At the very least we call on the British Government to:
1. Suspend all arms transfers to and from Israel, and halt all military cooperation.
2. Commit not to give immunity to suspected Israeli war criminals, by not issuing special mission immunity, and by respecting the warrants issued by the International Criminal Court.
3. Expand personal sanctions to organisations and individuals whose actions might constitute grave obstructions of International Humanitarian Law, such as ELAD, Yesha Council, and the Israel Land Fund.
4. Investigate and sanction British companies or persons for potential violations of international law in the region — such as Arieh King (and his organisation, the Israel Land Fund), who has been identified as responsible for the ban on UNRWA and has, for years, been a driving force behind the displacement of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, raising grave concerns of ethnic cleansing; and JCB, whose machinery is actively involved in the displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank.
5. Initiate a Security Council resolution urging Israel to immediately permit the entry of substantial quantities of food and medicine into Gaza.
In your response, we kindly ask that you outline how you intend to address this matter on our behalf and keep us informed of any progress made.
