Let’s move forward ASAP on Safe Green Schools!
Columbus School Board & District Leadership
Columbus City School (CCS) District has taken the first steps forward to implement the Safe Green Schools resolution passed unanimously last December - and we applaud them for that. Now it’s time to accelerate our efforts and do more!
Especially given the rapidly rising costs for fossil fuels, we can’t afford to let our schools fall behind the times, throw money away on dirty energy sources, and ignore the immense potential of the clean energy economy.
We’re encouraging CCS to move forward as fast as possible on:
Implementing green projects at sites across the district that promote energy efficiency; including solar panels, and geothermal heating and cooling systems (as appropriate for each school site).
Creating vocational programs for CCS students to prepare for careers in the new clean energy economy, which is growing rapidly.
Re-assessing the costs of continuing to heat and cool buildings with fossil fuels, and looking for new opportunities to reduce those costs (along with the associated air and climate pollution that creates health problems for everyone in Columbus).
Other school districts across the country have already transitioned to make their schools greener – and save millions of dollars in the process. One district in Arkansas went solar and saved so much money that it was able to give raises to all its teachers. Columbus could do the same.
The clean energy future is within our grasp. We can, in fact, have school facilities that help ensure our air is clean, our city is healthy, and our costs are lower. All it takes is action – and your support on this petition will help bring that about faster.Sponsored by

We applaud your support of the Safe Green Schools Resolution – now let’s get to work!
With energy costs skyrocketing, it’s now more important than ever that we accelerate our efforts and move without delay to implement the program:
-- Implement projects at buildings across the District as fast as possible, including (as appropriate for the sites) energy efficiency upgrades, solar rooftops or parking lots, geothermal heating & cooling, etc.
-- Develop vocational and career technical education (CTE) programs for CCS students to prepare to get green energy jobs, which are in high demand these days.
– Re-assess energy costs across the district, given sharply rising costs for fossil fuels, and think creatively about how those costs could be reduced with clean energy projects.
We can’t let Columbus schools fall behind the times, throw money away on high energy costs, and ignore the immense potential of the clean energy economy.
So please take the leadership and help prepare our schools for a safe, green future.
