Ask ActBlue to protect our privacy as donors
ActBlue
ActBlue is, by far, the leading online donations processing platform for Democratic candidates and progressive causes.
Unfortunately, they are not currently doing all they can to protect the privacy of our personal data -- specifically, our email addresses and phone numbers. Federal law requires them to provide certain information (name, mailing address, occupation and employer) to political candidates and committees; phone and email are NOT included on that list.
However, by default, they DO currently provide our emails and phone numbers to candidates when we donate... and that information is then openly sold, rented and traded among dozens (if not hundreds) of candidates, leading to ongoing deluges of un-permissioned fundraising asks (aka, spam).
As donors, we should have the ability to opt out of this broken system by withholding our email addresses and mobile numbers when we contribute.
So please sign the petition today to ask ActBlue to give us the ability to opt out of sharing phone and email information when we donate to political candidates or committees.

Political fundraising spam over text and email is a huge problem -- but you know that already.
As a political donor, I should have the right to withhold my email address and phone number from candidates who are going to transfer it to others without my permission.
So I ask that you develop and install a feature on all candidate and committee fundraising pages that allows me to opt OUT of sharing my email address and mobile number when I make a donation.
