Auburn Deserves a Safe Future: Stop the Police Layoffs
Mayor James Giannettino, City Manager Jenny Haines, and Members of Auburn City Council
Violent crime in Auburn is down by 33%. That didn’t happen by accident. It happened because of the proactive and dedicated police officers who work and live right here in our community.
Now, the city is proposing layoffs that would gut that progress. If these cuts go through, response times will go up and our streets will be less safe.
We are demanding that the city prioritize public safety because Auburn’s future depends on keeping a strong police force. Please take 30 seconds to sign this petition and tell the city that our safety is non-negotiable.

We, the residents, business owners, and families of Auburn, stand in strong opposition to the city’s proposed layoffs and staffing cuts at our police department.
Slashing Auburn’s police force is a dangerous step backward. Between 2020 and 2024, our officers helped bring down violent crime by 33%. We cannot afford to put that progress at risk by gutting the very department that makes this city safer.
Public safety is non-negotiable and cutting our police force will ultimately cost more in crime-related economic loss. Emergency response times will get worse because APD is already operating on a razor-thin margin. These cuts would shrink the police force far below the FBI-recommended staffing levels we need to keep our streets safe.
This is also about protecting our neighbors who serve this city. The seven officers targeted for layoff don't just work in the city. Auburn is their home. They protect our streets, they raise their families here, and they proudly serve city residents every day.
By signing this petition, we demand that the City of Auburn:
1. Withdraw all proposed layoffs for current officers.
2. Protect the two recruits currently in the academy to ensure our future safety.
3. Prioritize public safety as a core function that all other city services depend on.
