Petition to Ban the Use of Masks by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents in Colorado

Colorado General Assembly

We, the undersigned residents of Colorado, call on our state lawmakers to prohibit Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from wearing masks or otherwise concealing their identities while performing official duties funded by taxpayer dollars.

  • If ICE agents cannot show their faces to the communities they are sworn to protect and that pay their salaries, they should not be permitted to operate in those communities at all. Colorado’s local peace officers already serve with professionalism and transparency. Federal agents must be held to the same standard.

  • When ICE agents hide their faces, they spread fear in our communities, obstruct accountability, and erode trust in our systems of justice. Public servants should not operate in secrecy. Costumes are for Halloween—not officers acting under the authority of the United States government.

  • Concealing identity only fuels intimidation and escalates tension, making encounters more dangerous for everyone involved. Transparency builds trust, fosters communication, and strengthens public safety. It ensures accountability and prevents impersonation or abuse of authority by those acting without oversight.

Colorado must stand firm in defense of civil rights, due process, and the rule of law. Secret policing has no place in our state.

We call on state lawmakers to take swift action to ban the use of masks by ICE agents when operating in Colorado.

History is watching—and so are we.
