Disgusting betrayal: Demand Battin back down
Opposition Leader Brad Battin
Opposition Leader Brad Battin’s decision to rip up Treaty with First Peoples if elected is a disgusting betrayal of Aboriginal communities.
The journey to Treaty has been years in the making – transparent, inclusive and backed by thousands of First Nations people across Victoria, who’ve taken part in consultations, truth-telling and designing practical solutions that will benefit our kids, Elders and communities.
Treaty is about a simple principle: nothing about us without us.
Now Battin wants to destroy all of this for cheap political points and headlines.
We refuse to let Battin tear down Treaty. Sign the petition to show that thousands of people from all walks of life will fight for truth-telling, Treaty and justice.

Treaty legislation entering Parliament should be a moment of pride, unity and celebration for all Victorians. Aboriginal communities and Elders have long dreamt of this historic moment - and people from all walks of life can benefit.
But instead of listening to Aboriginal communities about their aspirations and solutions for moving forward together, the Liberal and National Parties have chosen to make Treaty into a political football.
Your decision to repeal Treaty if elected is a devastating betrayal of Aboriginal communities, Elders and allies.
The journey to Treaty has been transparent and ongoing across two election cycles. It is shameful for you to propose ripping up years of consultation, truth-telling, visioning and hard work that has engaged thousands of First Nations people across the state. You’ve shown no respect and no solutions.
The Victorian Liberals' half-baked idea to tear up Treaty and set up a new Aboriginal advisory group from scratch is shameful, disrespectful and inefficient. Victorians want to see our politicians focussed on moving forward, improving public services and working collaboratively with our communities - not trying to divide, distract and take us backwards.
Wrecking Treaty is a vote-loser. Thousands of people across Victoria are taking action in their communities to celebrate and defend this historic Treaty - and we’re just getting started.
