Believe In and Invest In DC's Kids!
Ask our policymakers to prioritize our kids in the FY27 budget
More of our students then ever are reading on grade level.
Our parents are the most satisfied in the country around the choices they have for their children.
But we also know that's not enough.
Our gaps between our students are still too wide. Things like family income, Ward, and special needs are still correlated with our outcomes.
In this difficult year across the country, we need to believe in and invest in the future of DC: OUR KIDS!
The progress we made was because we invested in our kids and schools. And now, we have to not only keep it up, we have to expand it. Because our kids need us adults to invest in their futures.
In the newly released budget video, our Parent Leaders share about the investments our kids need and center the voices of DC's people:
- Academics: literacy (science of reading and focus on phonics), math (everybody is a "math person"), educator training and professional development, high quality instructional materials (HQIM), and high-impact tutoring (HIT)
- Taking Care of the Whole Child: safe passage to school, diverse school options and models, out-of-school time programs, and school-based mental health

We know that we are facing challenging times for the District and a difficult budget season. As PAVE always shares our Parent Leaders’ funding priorities with our policymakers, we recently had a conversation with our parents about what was top of mind for them. We want to make sure you hear directly from them, so in lieu of a budget letter we are sharing this video outlining their FY27 budget priorities: https://link.dcpave.org/3LYFCAy
As always, DC’s kids and our schools are top of mind for our Parent Leaders. They shared what has worked based on their personal experiences and where we need to keep pushing so every student can access the excellent education they deserve.
We are asking District leaders to invest in our kids by funding the following priorities in the FY27 budget:
- Academics: Fund training for teachers in literacy and math best practices, protect and expand high-impact tutoring. Learn more here: https://link.dcpave.org/3LT7INC
- Safe Passage to School
- Specialized School Programs
- Out-of-School Time Programs
- School-Based Mental Health
DC's schools and students are making incredible progress because of the investments we have made. Now is the time to focus our investments on what matters most - our kids - and continue funding what we know works so every child in DC can thrive, in school and beyond.
Believe in our kids. Invest in our kids.
